Coast Armor Trim
Coast washes up in shipwrecks. Any of the three chest types aboard (map, supply or treasure) can hold it, so a complete wreck is worth searching thoroughly.

Coast uses low, rolling lines that suggest waves breaking against a hull. It is understated enough for everyday armor and looks especially good with lapis, diamond or copper trims that echo sea water and brass ship fittings.
Where to find the Coast template
Shipwrecks generate in ocean biomes and occasionally on beaches, where they are easy to spot. Many are half-buried or broken, so some are missing a chest or two. A wreck can hold up to three chests: the map chest near the stern, the supply chest in the bow, and the treasure chest in the middle.
Each chest has a 16.7% chance of holding a Coast template. A complete wreck with all three chests gives roughly a 42% chance of at least one.
Field tips
- Water breathing potions, a turtle helmet or a conduit make underwater looting relaxed instead of frantic.
- Beached shipwrecks are the cheapest to raid. Check coastlines before you dive.
- The map chest often has a buried treasure map, which can lead you to a heart of the sea.

Each of the shipwreck chests you check has a 16.7% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.

How to duplicate Coast
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one cobblestone, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

How do you duplicate the Coast trim?
At a crafting table, place the Coast template in the top-middle slot, a cobblestone in the centre and diamonds in the other seven slots. You get two Coast templates back.

On average about 6. After 4 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 13 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Coast trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.20, the Trails & Tales update, released in June 2023.
Do all shipwrecks have three chests?
No. Damaged or partial wrecks can be missing chests, so the odds per wreck vary.
Can I find Coast templates in buried treasure?
No. Buried treasure chests have their own loot table, which does not include trim templates.
