Tide Armor Trim
Tide is the only trim that drops from a mob. Each ocean monument has three elder guardians, and each one has a 20% chance to drop the template when a player kills it.

Tide uses stacked wave crests that sweep across the armor. It suits ocean builders and divers. Diamond, lapis and emerald trims all play to its marine feel, and gold on diamond looks like treasure pulled from the deep.
Where to find the Tide template
Ocean monuments are large prismarine temples in deep ocean biomes. You can buy an ocean explorer map from a cartographer villager, or watch for the guardians that swarm the water above a monument.
One elder guardian waits in the top chamber and the other two are in the wings. Killing all three gives roughly a 49% chance of at least one Tide template, and also lifts the mining fatigue they inflict.
Field tips
- Water breathing, Respiration and Depth Strider make the raid much easier. A conduit placed near the entrance helps even more.
- Elder guardians apply mining fatigue, so plan to fight rather than tunnel.
- Each monument also hides gold blocks in its treasure room, enough to pay for your trip.
Chance to find Tide
Each of the elder guardian kills you check has a 20% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.

How to duplicate Tide
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one prismarine, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

How do you duplicate the Tide trim?
At a crafting table, place the Tide template in the top-middle slot, a prismarine in the centre and diamonds in the other seven slots. You get two Tide templates back.
How many kills does it take to find Tide?
On average about 5. After 4 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 11 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Tide trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.20, the Trails & Tales update, released in June 2023.
Do elder guardians respawn?
No. There are exactly three per monument, so each monument gives three chances.
Is there a Tide template in the monument treasure room?
No. Ocean monuments have no loot chests. The template only drops from elder guardians.
