Eye lives in strongholds, the underground fortresses that hold the End portal. Library chests always contain one, and altar chests have a 10% chance.

Eye centres the chestplate on a single watchful shape surrounded by quiet detailing. It is mysterious and pairs naturally with End colours such as amethyst, emerald and quartz on dark armor.
Where to find the Eye template
Throw eyes of ender to track down a stronghold, the same way you would to reach the End. Strongholds are maze-like, with corridors, prisons, fountains and staircases.
Not every stronghold has a library, and some have two. Library chests reliably give an Eye template. The smaller altar chests found in corridors have a 10% chance each.
Good to know: Library chests always hold one.
Field tips
- Libraries are tall rooms full of bookshelves and cobwebs. Listen for silverfish, and avoid breaking infested stone bricks.
- Larger libraries have a second level reached by ladders, with another chest on it.
- Craft a few extra eyes of ender. Some break while you are triangulating.
Chance to find Eye
Each of the altar chests you check has a 10% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.

How to duplicate Eye
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one end stone, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

How do you duplicate the Eye trim?
At a crafting table, place the Eye template in the top-middle slot, an end stone in the centre and diamonds in the other seven slots. You get two Eye templates back.

On average about 10. After 7 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 22 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Eye trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.20, the Trails & Tales update, released in June 2023.
Is the Eye trim guaranteed?
Yes, in stronghold library chests. Altar chests elsewhere in the stronghold have a 10% chance.
Do all strongholds have a library?
No. Some have none and others have two, so it is worth exploring more than one stronghold if you need extra copies.
