Flow spirals around the chest like a gust of wind caught mid-turn, a nod to the breeze that guards trial chambers. It is one of the most dynamic trims and looks best with bright, airy trim materials like diamond, quartz or copper.
Where to find the Flow template
Trial chambers are copper and tuff complexes buried underground, often around Y -20 to 0. Ominous vaults have a dark, menacing look and only open with an ominous trial key.
To get ominous keys, drink an ominous bottle (dropped by raid captains) and enter the chamber. Bad Omen becomes Trial Omen, which turns trial spawners ominous. Defeating them drops ominous trial keys. Each ominous vault can be opened once per player.
Field tips
- Ominous trial spawners are noticeably harder. Bring a full kit, food and totems.
- Breezes deflect projectiles. Fight them in melee or with a mace.
- A breeze rod (dropped by breezes) is needed to duplicate Flow, so collect a few during the trial.
Chance to find Flow
Each of the ominous vaults you check has a 22.5% chance to contain the template. Enter how many you plan to check to see your odds of finding at least one.
Odds shown are for Java Edition. Bedrock Edition loot tables can differ slightly.
How to duplicate Flow
Templates are used up at the smithing table, so copy yours before you apply it. The recipe costs seven diamonds and one breeze rod, and gives you two templates.
Applying the trim
At a smithing table, put the template in the first slot, the armor piece in the second and your trim material in the third. Repeat for each piece. Each piece takes one template, so a full set needs four.

Flow trim FAQ
Where do I find the Flow armor trim?
Flow smithing templates come from trial chambers: 22.5% per ominous vault.
How do you duplicate the Flow trim?
At a crafting table, place the Flow template in the top-middle slot, a breeze rod in the centre and diamonds in the other seven slots. You get two Flow templates back.
How many vaults opened does it take to find Flow?
On average about 4. After 3 you have a better-than-even chance, and after 10 you are about 90% likely to have found one.
When was the Flow trim added?
It arrived in Java Edition 1.21, the Tricky Trials update, released in June 2024.
Do normal vaults drop Flow?
No. Flow only comes from ominous vaults. Normal vaults can give the Bolt trim instead.
Can I open the same ominous vault twice?
No. Each vault remembers which players have opened it. Other players can still open it once each.
